Mutitu SDA School
As its name suggests, Mutitu SDA Secondary School was founded (in 1971) and is run by the Seventh Day Adventist church in Mbooni, in Makueni County. It is a mixed, boarding and day school, next to a primary school and teachers’ training college, both similarly named. Mutitu’s mean grade in the 2015 KCSE was a C-. Challenges the school faces include low ambition and parents inability to afford school fees. The school has a work-study program to enable students pay their own tuition. Ramani Life Group asked Mutitu to invite a neighbouring school of their choice to the Career Day, which was held on Sunday, July 30th 2016. In total around 270 students from both Mutitu and Kikima secondary schools, along with students from the teachers’ college participated in the event. Ramani Life Group donated text books to stock Mutitu’s empty library, as well as maps and charts.
“We benefited greatly because our students were able to make informed decisions, they enjoyed the event. Meeting members of the group from different professions was also very, very good for us. Ken’s (*keynote speech) presentation was educative not only to the students, but also to all of us. It was an eye-opener to the teachers in terms of how students think and how sometimes, little, little things can affect them.”
